Why we exist

Steinkauz exists to contribute to that: one place for every major provider and hundreds of models, with visibility into origins, usage, costs, and control over how your data is handled. This enables you to make informed decisions and use advanced technologies according to your preferences.
Why the owl
"Steinkauz" is the German name for the little owl, Athene noctua. In Greek and Roman tradition the owl was sacred to Athena and Minerva — deities of wisdom and clear-sightedness. Its ability to see in the dark made it a symbol for knowledge that cuts through obscurity: seeing what others miss and acting with discernment.
For Steinkauz the product, that idea is central. We want you to see clearly which model you use, where your data goes, and what you pay; to choose freely across providers; and to keep control over your data. The owl isn't decoration — it's a reminder of what we build for: tools that enable you to see clearly and choose wisely.
