Zero Data Retention

Zero Data Retention (ZDR) means that the provider does not keep your prompts and related data after the API call. They do not use your content for training, and they do not store it beyond what is needed to complete the request (e.g. short-lived logs that are deleted within a defined period, such as 30 days).

Why it matters

If you want to minimize how long providers hold your data, ZDR helps. Enabling ZDR (where available) restricts usage to providers that commit to zero data retention, so your conversations are not stored on their side beyond the necessary processing window.

On Gateway plans

If you are on a Gateway plan, you can turn on Zero Data Retention in Gateway Provider Configuration. When enabled, only providers that have a ZDR agreement with the Gateway are used. If you turn ZDR off, the Gateway can use all configured providers again; some of them may retain data according to their own policies.

On BYOK

With BYOK, your requests go directly to the providers whose API keys you configured. Each provider has its own data retention and privacy policy. Steinkauz does not add a separate ZDR layer for BYOK; you choose providers that match your requirements and comply with their terms.

Transparency

We do not use your data to train our own models. For how we handle data in general, see Data handling and the Privacy Policy.
